Engadget Reveals New Prototype of Nerf N-Strike Elite Cam ECS-12 Blaster, Comes With Built in Camera & $75 Price Tag

/All photos in this thanks to Engadget

Today, Engadget premiered photos and video of the upcoming N-Strike Elite Cam ECS-12 blaster, a prototype blaster with a built in camera allowing you to record video and take photos. This is the first Nerf blaster with a built in camera, although you should take that with a massive grain of salt because the camera quality is 0.3 Megapixels (photos) and 20 Frames per second (video). Theres a video sample on the Engadget site and the video quality is not good to say the least. It will come with a 4 GB SD card out of the box which will allow you to save your photos and videos on it.

The screen size is also on the small side, according to the site it’s 1.77 inches big. Blaster runs on 4 AA batteries, and the camera runs on 4 AA batteries for a total of 8 AA batteries. The battery life should give it a total of 3 recording hours.

Operation wise, it performs pretty much like a Stryfe. Hold down the acceleration trigger, and then pull the firing trigger to fire the blaster. It is a semi automatic, so it will fire as fast as you can pull the trigger. The photo above shows the normal 12 dart clip going around, but Nerf plans on making an exclusive Clear 12 Dart clip (like you see in the top most image of this post) to go along with the blaster. Nerf also plans on adding blue trim to the blaster.

Engadget also says that their getting up to 90 feet with the blaster, but I’m willing to bet it’s actually closer to the Demolisher 2-1 Blaster 100 feet press description revealed to us recently. This blaster should also retail in the Fall in the USA for about $75.

My initial thoughts are that I’m not too impressed with the blaster, and that some of the negatives are a bit too much. But I’ll sleep io it and try to get up a more thorough initial thoughts post or video in the near future.

New Nerf Elite Suction Darts Appear On Toys R Us Japan Site

Thanks to user Gavinfuzz of the Nerf Sub Reddit, and Toys R Us Japan, we have a small look at a new kind of dart coming in the future. It’s the old, classic, Suction Dart, but it’s now attached to an Elite Dart body. Below is the Google Translated description of in the listing.

Product Description:
Sucker type micro darts 30 bullet set ultimate version that corresponds to the blaster elite series of all. ※ There is the case that is slightly different image and the actual product.

The Release Date on the listing is 2014/03/20. That’s March 20, 2014. Which is a bit of a ways off from now.

Take note that the package features the selling point “Suction Darts work with all N-Strike Elite blasters.” If that’s the case, then it should work with the Clip/Mag fed blasters like the Retaliator, Rampage, Rapidstrike, etc etc. That most likely means that the suction heads on these upcoming darts will be smaller then the normal suction darts. Hopefully this means more weigh and/or better ballistics, so that these darts fly straighter and give us better accuracy.

Google Patent Reveals Hidden Nerf Elite Firestrike Feature, Dual Wielding

A Photo from the NIC’s latest Nerf Google Patent Discovery

This is news to me, and I’ve never personally seen anyone online mention the Firestrike having this feature, until now. Thanks to Awesomely Nerf and a fan reader of his, they have recently discovered why the Firestrike has a nub/tab at the bottom of the handle.

According to this Google Patent, the tab is actually meant to hook into another Firestrike in order to prime it more easily. You can see it on the patent image above, in the Google Patent itself, or being done my Awesomely Nerf in his photos below.

Amazon listing for Nerf Mega Series Magnus blaster Updated with Box Art Photo

I’ve been trying to keep tabs on this blaster in hopes for new information coming out sooner then later. The listing for the Mega Series Magnus has been updated to include a new box art photo (which is pictured above), as well as a product shot of the item. The description is still the same as before, although it’s nice to have more photos of this blaster online.

A diagram showcasing the upcoming Zombie Strike Ripshop blaster

On the Nerf Malaysia Facebook group, a user posted this link to a Hasbro patent. In the patent, about 18 images also accompany it. We can already discover new information as to how the upcoming Zombie Strike Series Fusefire and Ripshot blasters operate just by glancing at the photos. Click here to once again see what the Fusefire & Ripshot will look like.

I haven’t had the time to try and dive through all the text, but just by looking at some of the images & diagrams that are in the patent, we can get a bit more of an understanding as to how the blasters work and what features they’ll have. Check out the rest of the post for most patent images of the Fusefire and Ripshot, as well as a bit of my analysis on them.
